Matt reached out to shoot his and Di's wedding on a Rockefeller Center rooftop, an outdoor evening ceremony with no overhead lighting once the sun went down. I was up for the challenge. Then, on the day we'd scheduled a venue walkthrough, we got bumped, because Beyoncé and Jay-Z had booked the same rooftop for a birthday celebration. If the venue could pull that off, I figured we were in good hands.
When I delivered their gallery, I found out Matt was the developer behind Ambience, the first iPhone app I ever bought back in 2007. Small world got smaller from there: since photographing their wedding, I've kept running into their friends inside my own circle, the kind of "wait, don't I know you from somewhere?" moments that seem to follow this industry.
